If asked the question, "Who is Shanequa McCoy," my response would be, "I am more than a Conqueror."

Growing up in a two-parent household was foreign to where I am from in the Bronx, New York. I was fortunate to have both parents who were very hands-on and involved in my life, and when it came down to love and attention, if one was lacking in an area, the other picked it up. Growing up in The Bronx, if someone were to ask, "Hey, where are you from?" we would say "The Bronx" as if it was one word. I was raised in Edenwald Projects, one of New York City's largest housing projects, surrounded by short and tall buildings, with two precincts having permanent residents. It is safe to say I grew up in the hood.

I was born in July, the seventh month, on the 17th day of the year. The number seven has always been significant to me. It is the foundation of God's word and is tied directly to creation. It symbolizes completeness and perfection, both physical and spiritual. So, with all those 7's in my birth date, my life is one BIG blessing. However, even with being blessed, I still had to face hardship and tribulation in my life.

I was molested on several different occasions by three family members. I grew up with those issues that I never understood, and even through some counseling, I was too little to remember the tools that the therapist set up. So, those suppressed issues translated into me having problems learning in school. I gave up on learning at age 10, and I hated school. However, I mastered two things while there, one of which came from being bullied: I learned to fight and use my fist. I was a good fighter, and it helped to grow my reputation. The second thing was my sense of fashion. These two things made me popular in school, but I was still a kid hurting terribly on the inside with little understanding of the cards my life had been dealt.

Writing my first musical play was torture because I could hear the story God gave me and listen to the words, but I couldn't spell them. I would write the initial on the page for whatever I couldn't spell, and once I finished writing, I sent it to my best friend for help. This process was extremely exhausting, and I cried so many nights, but I would get it done. And today, I am still getting it done.

My name is Shanequa McCoy, and I was born with the number 7 as my birthright. God handpicked a tough city girl with different challenges ahead of her to be his mouthpiece. My assignment is to create the ultimate experience for the world, to show who God is to people like me who genuinely want to experience God differently, not suffocated by tradition and religion. I have learned that God will remove things from your life that interfere with His plans, but He will also keep things in your life that will benefit His kingdom. I am more than willing to go where God chooses to take me. When Jesus walked this earth, he didn't come as a king or a prince; he went as a regular man with a Kingdom assignment!
